Camera Shy

Wendy arranged a dinner for the NY Brandeis crowd. Geoff Belinfante said he hated being plagued by paparazzi.

Wendy took real photos while I popped a few images with my iPhone in a very dimly lit restaurant--hence all the grain. Here's Wendy.

Attending Josh Mostel, Emily White, Phoebe Epstein, Walter Klores, Arthur Levy, Richie Williams, Wendy Caplin and Larry Harlow (Wendy's husband).

If you want to be included in future events, call or e-mail one of us and we'll put you on the list.

Another Dinner

Shola

Thanks to Emily for taking initiative and organizing a dinner at Shun Lee Cafe. Shola Friedensohn was in town from Cambridge so she was our surprise guest visitor this time.

Arthur Makes a Point
Arthur Levy and his wife Andrea were in attendance too. Their son Jake is a freshman at NYU and loving it. He tolerates the occasional visit from the parental units although their tolerance for dorm hygiene makes their visits rare. But he can make it home to Riverdale pretty regularly.

Wendy
Wendy Caplin and her husband Larry Harlow were in attendance too. Harlow should be granted an honorary Brandeis diploma for having endured so many of these evenings.
Harlow

Seriously
Emily and Harlow look as if someone is mentioning the Bush administration here!

Ruthie
Ruth Katz brought gifts for us. I got birdseed in a cute makeup case. Perhaps I should adorn my eyelids with millet! (Hmm, some bird might peck my eyes out--too much like a Greek tragedy!)

All a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the next event!

Trip to Mauritius

Marjorie & Jenney
Originally uploaded by PhoebeJ.
Last year at our 35th Reunion, Marjorie Harrison and I spent some time together. Marjorie suggested I come visit her in Mauritius where she is stationed with the State Department. I took her up on it!

It took awhile to get things together, and I wanted to wait until the weather in Mauritius was favorable. On April 10th, I boarded the big bird for the long (22-hour) trip to Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean, a six-hour flight due south the Dubai.

What a great trip! First of all Marjorie was a terrific, gracious hostess and Jenney, her housekeeper, took excellent care of me. And Mauritius is lovely with an interesting history. The Dutch, the French and the British held it at one time or another. (The Dutch famously ate all of the natives, the dodo!) Visit my photo page to see more pictures of this gorgeous island. Given that everyone speaks French and English, getting around was simple, and I feel as if I saw the entire island. Great beaches, beautiful mountain peaks, amazing gorges.

Marjorie's next assignment will be in Malaysia. Guess where I'll be going!

NYC Brandeis '69 Dinner

Arthur and Emily
Originally uploaded by PhoebeJ.
Wendy Caplin engineered a get-together of some of the New York area alums from the Class of '69.

Arthur Levy, Emily White (and her husband Walter Klores '61), Wendy (and her husband Larry Harlow, not a Brandeis grad), Geoff Belinfante, Mickey Lemle, Ted Gross, Phoebe Epstein and Judy Tellerman (who was visiting from Chicago and made a special guest appearance) dined at Becco.

I can't provide as vivid a description of the food as Wendy, but suffice it to say, it was plentiful and delicious. The company was great and mysterious bottles of wine appeared courtesy of "Tony D", an associate of Arthur's.

Click on the title of the photo and it will take you to my photo page where you can see other photos of the event.

And, hey, anyone who wants to come to the next dinner should let Wendy know (since she's the glue that holds this thing together).

Small World

Too much time on my hands. (Actually, sitting around waiting for a phone call in hopes of clarifying evening plans.) I googled my own name. Vanity, all is vanity.

Anyhow, I came across this website about Phoebe Stone who is, I believe, Brandeis Class of '70. I didn't know Phoebe, but we Phoebes tend to be aware of one another just because of the rarity of the name. I had seen her name in the mailroom (along with Phoebe Smith). Did any of you know her? Brandeis people crop up everywhere!
